The Department of Portuguese and Brazilian Studies at Brown University seeks an outstanding scholar and dynamic teacher whose work focuses primarily on Brazilian literature and culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. This is an open rank search – we will consider appointing either a tenure track assistant professor or a tenured associate or full professor.

Criteria for the appointment include: 1. Distinguished publication record or, in the case of assistant professors, demonstrated promise as a scholar of Brazilian literature and culture; 2. Strong commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students; 3. Willingness to contribute to the vibrant intellectual life of the department and the university; 4. Native or near native command of both Portuguese and English, and ability to conduct undergraduate and graduate courses in either language; 5. Familiarity with the United States higher education system; 6. A minimum of three years of full time experience; 7. Administrative experience desirable.
